WilmaLee Eckman, who resides
in Southern Lancaster County, is a lifelong
resident of Pennsylvania. She is a self-taught
artist who has been painting for over 40 years.
Her intimate relationships with the Lancaster
County Amish community and her Pennsylvania
German family's "old customs" gives her a unique
insight which she portrays in her paintings. Her
original hand painted depictions of Amish life
have sold internationally.
One unique thing about the
Amish in WilmaLee's paintings is that, in
respect for their beliefs, the faces are left
blank. WilmaLee is a wife and mother of three,
who enjoys spending time with her two
grandchildren. She is a direct lineal descendant
of the Rev. Hans Herr, who led the first
Mennonite group to establish a permanent
settlement in Lancaster County, in 1710.
WilmaLee Eckman is a member of the Lancaster County Art Association. |
